I met Nicole Slater a couple of years ago at a Melbourne Cup event and a few champagnes later we realised that, with our love of art, we had a lot in common. It wasn’t till I got home to look at her work properly that I realised what a humble person she is about what she does.
You may not know Nicole is the wife of the uber-talented Billy Slater of Melbourne Storm. She has been a huge supporter of his career but he is just as supportive of her. They make a pretty good couple in business and they are both pretty easy on the eye!
I am so excited to share with you Nicole’s incredible talent and look forward to seeing her grow her business in the years to come. Nicole was kind enough to answer some questions for me and her answers were so great I’ve split them into two Little Black Book entries. Here’s part one…
SB: How did painting become your career?
Nicole: started taking it seriously around 12 years ago when I was living in my hometown of Cairns. I used to attend Port Douglas markets with my paintings and found that they would sell quite well. I was then asked to commission a painting for my Dad’s friend and that’s when I thought: “I can make a career out of this!”.
