If you watch Selling Houses Australia or Deadline Design you’ve probably noticed by now how much I love tackling a new, exciting project. Especially if it’s something I haven’t done before. Styling Glenvill’s magnificent four-bedroom home for the Royal Melbourne Hospital Home Lottery presented me with exactly that sort of challenge.
The RMH Home Lottery is the hugely successful Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation’s fundraising campaign and tickets sell out fast! The Foundation is always looking for ways to make the grand prize – a fully-furnished family home – more aspirational, so I was delighted when approached to help take this Glen Iris property to the next level.
Usually when I’m asked to support a charity it’s at the end stage of a campaign and I’m simply invited to attend an event or asked to share fundraising information. To be involved in a charity campaign from its inception using my styling expertise to help to shape and add value to the grand prize, and hopefully get people even more motivated about the lottery, was something new and exciting for me.
My brief was to create a minimalist, contemporary design style for the home, a style the charity hasn’t previously adopted for one of its Home Lottery properties. They wanted something completely outside the box so my goal was to create a beautifully styled home, with some quirky elements that really capture peoples’ imaginations to make them want to buy tickets for a chance to win this incredible home!
The result is, I think, a house styled with the contemporary look that’s so ‘right now,’ but also a home that is inviting, usable, and stimulates the imagination. It provides interiors any Australian family would feel comfortable living in and room for the winner to infuse their own personality here and there.
If you’ve never bought a ticket for the RMH Home Lottery before I’d highly recommend it. The Grand Prize – the Glenvill Home in Glen Iris – is valued at more than $2.8-million and includes the home, all furnishings and $50k in gold bullion! Proceeds go to support patient care and research at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, there are 4,700 prizes and there is a 1 in 25 chance of winning a prize. That sounds like pretty good odds to me!
