When you’re raising kids, and you’re there for every breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack, your cooking deteriorates from amazing, to purely becoming a function of timelines and convenience. There are definitely stages of cooking evolution where your interest wanes, or you don’t want to cook any more, then there are times in your life when you embrace your culinary leanings and want to cook to celebrate family and friendships, and that’s where I am right now.
I’m currently in the throes of rediscovering my kitchen at Borough Of Hawthorn and I’m loving it! I’m still time poor, but I’m kitted out with appliances that fit my lifestyle perfectly. There’s my Asko steam oven, which is Shaynna-proof when I’m multi-tasking and forget that I’m cooking something! The food never burns in a steam oven, it might just come out a little mushier if my mind wanders!
Adam Liaw has some fab recipes for the steam oven – including this roast chicken (which he says is the best roast chicken he’s ever cooked!) – that will give you an idea of what the Asko steam oven is capable of. Then there’s my volcano wok burner, which enables me to whip up an instant meal without having to plan and prepare and prepare four hours in advance. Check out Adam Liaw’s prawn and broccoli stir fry recipe here for some quick, simple dinner inspiration.
