Easter isn’t just about chocolate and, growing up in Melbourne and having many Greek friends, I have always been surrounded by the coloured eggs (that you don’t dare to eat but look fantastic), the bread, and the feast.
In our family Easter is a smaller affair than Christmas, and I started our own tradition of celebrating with an afternoon tea rather. Scones, jam, cream, sandwiches and ample platters of fruit. By the time you have had your hot-cross buns and in a chocolate coma after the Easter hunt a simple feast with a pot of tea is a nice end to the celebrations.
There are so many recipes for Scones but one of the easiest is the lemonade batch. Consists of flour, lemonade, cream ( I never add the sugar or salt and turn out fine!). There are mountains of recipies online, now all you need to do is find the right jam! Our local cafe Blood Orange stocks all award winning unusual jams in perfect time for that afternoon tea!
