I have a few dietary requirements that can make it tricky to eat out at restaurants, but Italian eatery Smith and Daughters easy-to-navigate menu has those of us with food intolerances covered.
Situated on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Smith and Daughters owners Mo Wyse and Shannon Martinez are on a mission to champion sustainable dining practices, and challenge the perception that vegan food is bland. Their brunch menu features dishes like Bombolini with vanilla bean marsala custard, parmesan scramble with sautéed broccoli, chilli, lemon and garlic, and mushrooms and ricotta on toast. I haven’t tried their dinner menu yet, but it features a mix of small and large plates with Italian favourites like a Carpaccio of fig, horseradish cream, fried capers and rocket, gnocchi with a broccoli rabe pesto, and Milanese schnitzel. All vegan of course. Located in a corner bluestone, the décor has a rock ‘n’ roll vibe with neon signage and framed band posters on the wall. Perfect for a weekend brunch with friends or a week night catch-up.
