So, The Block’s Back! What did you think of episode one of our twelfth season – and what do you think of our stunning Art Deco block? Did you know it used to be the headquarters of a soap and candle factory back in its heyday? At the time owners J.Kitchen & Sons Pty Ltd Velvet Soap told their 300 staff in their newsletter the property was one of the most modern in the Commonwealth “combining loftiness, dignity and stability”.

Inside the fittings were top notch, with polished maple and plate glass doors, a revolving entrance door that opened onto an exquisite mosaic-tiled foyer featuring the J.Kitchen & Sons’ monogram and a spacious ‘social’ hall for 700 people “with a Kauri floor well-laid for dancing”. All that fabulousness is there for our Blockheads to tackle – but don’t think there isn’t work for them to do! It’s the first time our contestants have renovated a building from the 1920s and our full-heritage restoration is going to require a lot of demolition work before renovations can begin.
Which contestants jumped out at you after episode one? Our ‘vintage’ married couple of 30 years Dan and Carlee, our engaged high school sweethearts Karlie and Will, powerhouse partners Julia and Sasha, husband and wife team Kim and Chris or best buddies Andy and Ben?
