Well we are really into the freezing cold of winter and i love nothing more than a pot of tea to warm me up but I also love a nice red by the fire or a wine or champagne at night on weekends with friends.

My drinking is social in my life and sharing those moments with friends is what makes it all so great.
So if I am not a big drinker why would I do Dry July and what would it achieve? It is all about raising money for charity. I can’t wait to take on the challenge of Dry July but most of all raising money for The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

With staff of the Royal Melbourne Hospital
Why? Having a fun social drink with my friends and girlfriends I will miss but not as much as losing beautiful girlfriends to cancer. I have fresh memories of the terrible battle they went through, but I am not alone and I am sure anyone can relate to this as cancer touches many people directly and indirectly. It is hard to know some one who doesn’t have their story of losing some-one to cancer or on the upside being a survivor.
I want to raise money for The Royal Melbourne Hospital as they are directing their funds to make the time in hospital more comfortable. Patients are there for treatments and, although having better beds, waiting rooms and splashing new colours on the walls can’t cure cancer, it can make the time more comfortable and less – well – hospital like!!! I know the power of interiors and how they can elevate your mood, calm emotions and give a sense of well being.

So I am hoping you can either give a donation or join my team for Dry July to help raise money for this great cause.
Of course you can buy a Golden Ticket for a special occasion to get you through. Now you may think that is cheating but instead you are paying a donation for the privilege to have a drink and again…. raise money!! My son leaves in 5 days to travel overseas for 6 months so I am tossing up getting a Golden ticket for one glass of champagne or to tough it out. Either way I know I will be giving to a great cause no matter what.
Over this month I will give ideas and tips of alternatives to drinking for special occasions (and what to do with that golden ticket if you need it!) and incentives to make donations.

Mocktails with Bundaberg Ginger Beer - yum!
So bring on Dry July and bring on the donations!!

And I’d love for you to share your tips and ideas about getting through the month of July.
