As part of the London 2012 Olympic Games, 11 apartment blocks have been created with 2,818 apartments and a 24hr dining hall which seats 5,000 to accommodate the 17,000 athletes and officials. Once the games are over, the apartments will become affordable housing – unlike Sydney where the athletes’ village was made up of mostly portable or temporary structures.
The London Olympic Athletes’ Village was created by Australian firm Lend Lease with over tens of thousands of people on the job over the last 4 years.
There is a hairdressing salon, shops, a recording studio, a games room, a cinema room, a social club and lots of open space.
