I am always talking about using qualified, registered tradesmen on your jobs and not attempting the electricals and plumbing yourself, and here is a major reason why.
I am on a job at the moment and while going over details with the ‘sparkys’ they where taking out the downlights to move position, and they found this!
Please check your existing downlights to make sure this isn’t happening!
This is why fire & safety regulations are instilled in our country. Remember all the fires you hear about from ceiling downlights, well this is why houses go up in flames. These downlights were installed only three years ago (as the owners let us know) and no cowl cover was put over them. As you can see in the picture the ‘blow-in’ insulation has been settling near the downlight and is a little fried. It is a miracle this ceiling hasn’t gone up in flames and I feel the owners are pretty lucky they were doing the renovations as we have diverted a serious house fire.
Please protect your family and make sure any downlights have the fire & safety regulator covers on them.
