Selling Houses Australia continues on the LifeStyle Channel and tonight we’re heading to Forest Lake in Queensland. I can’t think of a better opportunity to pick my experts’ brains on the trends they hope never darken their – or their clients’ – doorways again!!!
I’d love to get your thoughts on each week’s topics, either in the comments section at the bottom of the articles, or by tagging me in your Tweets @ShaynnaBlaze, or on my Facebook page, but in the meantime, let’s throw it over to my panel of experts…
The trend I hope I never see again is…
Darren Palmer, Interior Designer:
…Terracotta. Hate it in all forms!
Kate St James, Interior Designer and Editor in Chief: Universal Magazines:
…I’m not much for trends but there have been some awful ones such as sponge painting on walls and furniture – a ‘90s trend I hope I never see again!

Neale Whittaker, Editor in chief, Vogue Living:
…Where do I start? Throws drive me crazy because they’re so over-thrown. Striped towels inspired by a certain very famous Italian brand. Anything inspired by owls.

…Any artwork that starts with the words ‘Keep Calm,’ and fluro colours. Dutch design duo Scholten & Baijings have got a lot to answer for!
Miriam Fanning, Founding Principal, Mim Design:
…the glass dining table with over-detailed chrome framed legs accompanied with white vinyl dining chairs with angled backs.
Colin & Justin, Interior Designers, Style commentators and world savvy Lifestyle guru:s
…The interior evil of all evils has to be shag pile carpet in the bathroom – whomever thought that a fluffy deep fabric floor covering would work in a wet room was clearly deranged.

Carpet close to the toilet? Let’s just hope everyone’s aim is true! A harbinger of bodily flakes and ooze, the bathroom carpet is one design trend that’s best left in the past!
Steve Cordony, Interior Stylist:
…Remember when everyone did the contemporary black, white and yellow look? It works so well but I feel like it was so overused that whenever I see it now, I just want to scream!

OK that’s a little dramatic – it can still work – but maybe mix in greys and some more eclectic pieces rather than really crisp contemporary designs.
Christopher Boots, Lighting Designer:
…Replica anything.
Wilhelmina McCarroll, Zuster Design Director:
…It’s got be the Shabby Chic trend, I know it took off there for quite a while but it’s just not my style at all.
