An open mezzanine, Joe and John’s master bedroom looked and felt very spacious but gave them no relief from the light when they were trying to sleep, the smells from the kitchen below, and the noise from the living area downstairs if one went to to bed before the other. Cue ear plugs and eye masks!
I framed the walls to the ceiling accentuating the pitch, making it a great architectural feature. In keeping with a modernist feel to the apartment I put in small Accent Aluminium internal awning windows in black frames, and painted the window panels black for a Piet Mondrian feel. I linked these panels visually with linear black About Space ‘Space’ black bedside table lamps that reflected my goal to make the space feeling sculptural, rather than soft and homey.
The black and white base palette is softened by John and Joe’s timber side tables, and the small touches of yellow in the Urban Road artwork and Sheridan textured bed linen covering the Forty Winks bedding on the boys’ bed create a strong and simple bedroom look.
