The old bathroom had to be gutted and started from scratch. Keeping the same layout, with the Glasstek shower screen over the Innovative bath, I removed the laundry trough and washing appliances and moved the Caroma toilet suite from E&S Trading and the Timberline vanity to the same wall. I also installed a new Corinthian door with new hardware to match the rest of the house, as it had seen better times. This all combined to create more floor room and increased the flow of the space.

Given a brief to create something masculine, that is not overly fussy in its style, I focused on the Timberline vanity, benchtop, basin, shaving cabinet and under cabinet lighting as a functional and simple statement piece in the room. This fixture holds more than double the amount of storage Mark had previously, and the sleek surfaces put the bathroom back into the modern age.

The tiling is just simply, two different types of Perini Tiles subway tiles (matt and gloss), cut in three different sizes and arranged randomly in vertical and horizontal patterns. Taking an everyday fixture and giving it a creative twist, has created an eye-catching statement of style and sophistication. The Taubmans brown paint brings an earthy, masculine tone to the tiles and enhances the depth of their effect. The grey floor tiles from National Tiles further compliment this design.

There are so many different tap styles on the market at the moment. Long gone is the boring, functional tap. Today’s designs are about making a statement and I went to Roger Seller and chose a ‘gun metal’ effect for Mark and his bathroom. It is masculine and almost feels a little bit vintage which fits in with the style of his house.

Keeping in mind that Mark is not into lotions and potions, I accessorised the bathroom with products from Aesop, Est Australia and the Renovator Store. I incorporated toothpaste from Pureman Style and Grooming, towels from Kate and Kate, a touch of greenery from Flowers by Van Gough and a Poured in Northcote soy candle that will give a soft, clean scent even if it is not lit. A cool balance of style to bring out Mark’s feminine side. Can’t wait for his brother to rib him about that one!
