Nothing says a blaze of colour like the Taubmans burnt red, Rum Runner feature wall that runs along the corridor from the front entrance to the backdoor, creating a blazing spine (see what I did there…) . I picked this colour as a modern twist on a tone in the period stained-glass window at the top of the hallway and injected its feeling and energy into the entire ground floor of the house.
The feature wall does not overwhelm the lounge as it is all about balance. The TV and black slimline Globe West entertainment unit ties in with then Freedom Kitchens kitchen cabinetry and blends into the space – rather than standing out. The TV cabinet was always going to be a prominent fixture in the room and having colour is the easiest distraction. The Mayfield Lamps Otto Lamp is positioned to the side and gives a subtle glow to the space, the Flowers by Van Gogh succulents bring unexpected greenery. Separately you may not think these accessories compliment each other, but with the feature wall as a base they combine to create a cozy, relaxed and stylish atmosphere. And true to Mark’s word he hasn’t painted over it… yet.
