The mini ensuite in the upstairs loft was claustrophobic even for little me, let alone someone of Mark’s stature! Whilst the footprint of the ensuite may have been tiny, it was the pitch of the roofline that made its renovation most difficult. Without being able to alter the angle of the ceiling, the skylight or much of the plumbing, my challenge was to create the illusion of space… when there was none!

Firstly, I removed the depth of the vanity and installed a new slimline basin with tapware to the side, in line with the wall. I also replaced the clunky overhead cupboard with a Glasstek (double check with neva) mirror. To put the storage back into the space, Timberline custom-made a vanity, shaving cabinet built into the wall above the toilet cistern, floating shelving and under lighting and what a difference this made! I incorporated the Caroma toilet suite from E&S Trading into the sleek design with the cistern hidden in the wall cavity.

A new Glasstek shower screen was installed with floor tiles from National Tiles. The combination of Perini Tiles matt and gloss subway wall tiles from the downstairs bathroom was repeated in the walls of the ensuite for consistency and style. A Hydrotherm vertical heated towel rail was added. An ultimate space saver, its tarnished bronzed finish compliments the gun metal tones of the bathroom fixtures from Roger Seller. The added timber accents keep this space clean and light.

To complete the modern and uncluttered look, I painted the ceiling a Taubmans white and kept the Aesop, Est Australia, Poured by Northcote and Flowers by Van Gogh accessories to a minimum – adding just enough touches to personalise the space. Another room Mark doesn’t need to be embarrassed about anymore.
