Another exciting sustainable design project I’ve been working on is Embody, Sydney’s first five-star, luxury, holistic fitness studio. Based in Neutral Bay, the brief was to create a pioneering urban sanctuary and holistic fitness space that centres on creating wellbeing for every member through physical, mental and emotional fitness.
I worked closely with entrepreneur and business advisor Anne McKevvit, who created the initial lay out and zoning of the space, and produced a detailed brief of design intent, and collated inspirational collateral that set the direction for the soul of the gym’s philosophy.
I designed the space in line with the studio’s philosophy: ‘move, nourish, unplug’. My focus was on incorporating sustainable materials into the design so that the physical environment of the space reflected the restorative culture of the studio.
Where possible I designed with materials that impart minimal environmental impact, created green walls, specified environmentally friendly cleaning products, installed LED lighting and mapped out unparalleled communal spaces to foster a feeling of nurtured belonging.
This visionary space in Neutral Bay was completed in 2016, and a second Embody studio – designed by me – is coming to Amsterdam very soon.
