SB Music: Bird's Basement

With the demise of Bennett’s Lane, it’s fantastic to see a new venue for live jazz music – Bird’s Basement – popping up in Melbourne.

Jazz music is close to my heart because I used to sing jazz at Manchester Lane Jazz Club on Flinders Lane 15 or 20 years ago!

I love jazz because it’s melodic and sensual, and it’s a bit risky because the verses and the words don’t always sit on the notes, they float above the music. Jazz makes me reminisce about the days where people went out to a jazz club for dinner, and got up to dance afterwards. It was an occasion to get dressed up for, and the highlight of the week.
