December 1 is traditionally the day we deck the halls in our house. I’ve always liked to mix up my approach to Christmas decorating. In years gone, when I’ve had plenty of time, I’ll put my hand up to creating a Christmas look akin to Santa’s workshop exploding in our lounge room.
This year, however, I’ve decided to go for a more sophisticated white and gold combination with some hints of rose pink to signify renewal, a major theme as we head into the New Year.
Decorating the entry and the lounge room is the bare minimum if you’re doing your bit to infuse your home with Christmas spirit. I like a festive wreath on the door to introduce your chosen colour palette, some greenery and sparkle in the hallway, then upping the ante in your living area with a tree, themed decorations, and plenty of fairy lights.
And don’t forget the power of fragrance at this time of the year. There is a wonderful array of Christmas scents to choose from, from traditional foodie smells like nutmeg, vanilla and berries, to more woody fragrances like pine and cinnamon. Festive fragrances in candles, oil burners and even soaps infuse your home with cheer, and will help add the finishing touch to your personal festive nativity.
