If you want to add a personal touch to your gift wrapping this Christmas here are some tips for making your pressies stand out under a crowded under the tree…
Au naturel
Add a sprig of spruce, a snip of mistletoe, a pinecone or a gumnut to a brown-paper wrapped present and secure with twine for a natural, rustic look. Bling things up with a spritz of silver, gold or festive red spray paint.
Say it with flowers
One of the big plusses of celebrating a Summer Christmas is the bounty of beautiful fresh blooms available in florists at this time of year. Using plain craft paper as your foundation, add simple ribbon and your gift recipient’s favourite flower, making the bloom the star of the show.
Layer upon layer
A great way to use remnants of wrapping paper to make your rolls go further. Use plain, or block-colour craft paper as your base, then layer it up with a strip of a luxuriously pattered, metallic or embossed paper. Top with a fabric ribbon bow.
A stitch in time
Source fabric remnants from a craft store or haberdashery for gift wrapping that feels as good as it looks. Avoid cliched Christmas fabrics in favour of simple patterns or something bold.
Sheet music
Sheet music makes a simple, elegant alternative to traditional giftwrap. Pick a favourite Christmas carol or find vintage sheet music in a music store and complete the look with a red ribbon and perhaps a little metallic bell.
